Two New Environmentally–Friendly Additions to

Manitou Springs Midweek Farmers Market

The 2008 season of the Manitou Springs Midweek Farmer’s Market showcases two new environmentally-friendly offerings with the addition of a Segway Pedicab service and recycling bins donated by Bestway. Happy Trails Segway Tours will be providing a $5 each way park-n-ride service from the Wichita parking lot, the First Congregational Church and points up and down Manitou Avenue with their Pedicabs, a rickshaw-like attachment to a Segway.

The Segway PT can take you places that a car or bicycle can't,” said owner Holly Byrnes. “Although they're ideal for short jaunts, Segway PTs can travel as far as 24 miles/38 km on a single battery charge, depending on terrain, payload, and riding style. With our Pedicab service, you’ll arrive at the Farmer’s Market in style!” Bestway Disposal will also be bringing their large compartmentalized recycling container to the Farmer’s Market each week, encouraging attendees to do their part to gently impact the environment.

Other highlights of the season include the ever-popular Carmen Miranda look-alike contest, the Hippy Dippy Chili Celebration, the Pepsi Kids’ Corner, a pro-am Bake Off and live music in the Coors Pavilion by Carlos Crull. Over 30 vendors will be on hand with the best that in homegrown that Manitou has to offer. The 2008 season begins June 11 and runs every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. through August 27.

It is the purpose of the Central Manitou Springs Business Improvement District to be a strong collaboration of business, government and community. Merchants in the district work together to insure a long-term goal of a clean, safe, vibrant visitor destination area reflective of its historic heritage that is attractive and welcoming to both visitors and residents, and contributes to the economic prosperity of Manitou Springs.
