Summer Begins in Manitou Springs with New Shops, New Opportunities and Old Favorites

Manitou Springs ushers in the summer season and solidifies its position as a premier Colorado destination spot with over 20 new shops, Segway tours and a season-long midweek Farmer’s Market well known for its locally grown food, art and music.
“The variety of new stores that have opened in the past few months in Manitou is a strong indicator of the vibrant growth curve that the town is experiencing,” said Kitty Clemens, Director of the Economic Development Council. “As a result, Manitou is attracting new first-time visitors and previous visitors are finding a reason to come back again.”
Winding westward down Manitou Avenue, new stores include: Whickerbill, a kitchen and home décor store that relocated from downtown Colorado Springs; and Plinkety Plink, a music box shop. A side turn down Cañon Avenue offers Jake’s at the Peak, a clothing store; Silver Sparrow, a bead store; and The Natural Gems Corner. Heading west again on Manitou Avenue, The Manitou Lofts & Shops have three new stores: T. Benton Brooks, an art gallery; Twigs, featuring home décor; and Salus, for the finest in organic health and beauty products.
The multi-million, newly-renovated historic Spa Building is home to four new stores and a relocated Manitou favorite: Fred D’Arpino, a working art studio; the Manitou General Store; Jermaine Rogers, a working art studio; D’Vine Wines, an on-premise winery; and the ever popular Adam’s Mountain Café. Leaving the Spa building and taking a left turn onto Ruxton: WeUsOur, an artists’ market; Mountain Wind and Sun, offering solar and wind powered items; Gilbert Gibson Imports caters to your Inner Brit or Celt; Fair Bella, an art studio; and Pamela’s Italian Ice promises to cool and refresh you on your pedestrian shopping tour.
Out of Ruxton Avenue, and heading east on Manitou Avenue, Pikes Peak Chocolate beckons you to sample their decadent indulgences; Crying Out Loud is the place for unique children’s gifts; Range Gallery features fine art photography and framing; and Swirl, a wine emporium, has a wine to please even the most discerning wine lover. If you don’t feel like walking, rent a Segway from Happy Trails Segway Tours and let them show you around town! These environmentally-friendly people transporters will also be a big hit at the 2008 Midweek Farmer’s Market in Manitou. Happy Trails will be providing a park-n-ride service, allowing participants to arrive in style in a pedicab pulled by a Segway. The Farmer’s Market season runs from June 11 to August 27.
It is the purpose of the Central Manitou Springs Business Improvement District to be a strong collaboration of business, government and community. Merchants in the district work together to insure a long-term goal of a clean, safe, vibrant visitor destination area reflective of its historic heritage that is attractive and welcoming to both visitors and residents, and contributes to the economic prosperity of Manitou Springs.
