Parking Management as and Economic Development Tool Presentation Slated
for Manitou Springs Town Hall Meeting
The Manitou Springs Metropolitan Parking District and the Manitou Springs Economic Development Council will host Mr. Dennis Burns from Calk Walker Associates to present Parking Management as an Economic Development Tool at Manitou Springs’ City Hall, April 5, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. Mr. Burns is one of the foremost authorities on the best practices of parking management. He has published numerous books for professionals, including Parking Management Principles and Best in Class Parking Programs.
Mr. Burns has particular expertise in parking master planning, inventory management and operations consulting. He is the author of over 100 parking studies in large, mid-sized and small communities. Dennis is an active member of the International Downtown Association and has helped nearly 50 downtown redevelopment agencies integrate successful parking programs to enhance retail sales and grow business activity in commercial urban environments.
The parking management presentation has been organized in cooperation with the Metropolitan Parking District and the Economic Development Council in response to requests from numerous citizens. Historic Manitou Springs was built as a town without cars. As such, how the streets are utilized by people and cars is a topic of interest for the entire community, including those living in residential areas of the historic district. The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required.

Manitou Springs Ahead is a citizen driven
volunteer effort to implement the Manitou Avenue Master Plan. Citizens from
numerous community groups formed Manitou Springs Ahead to submit
charitable grant requests, solicit individual legacy gifts and work with
government agencies on final design and construction in historic downtown.
