Committees Forming For 2006 Midweek Market
Manitou Springs – (March 6, 2006) Midweek Market, the weekly Farmers Market Festival in downtown Manitou Springs is seeking volunteers to join a variety of committees. This will be the second year for the Midweek Market. Organizers are gearing up to add new and improved features to the market for 2006.
Committee descriptions for the market are listed below:
Logistics:
- Sign plan for advertising and consumer wayfinding.
- Work on potential park and ride feature.
- Park Set-Up
- Traffic Management on Park Avenue
- Park Security
- Sponsor Banner Set-Up
Public Relations
- Work with local media to increase news coverage for the 13 week period.
- Submit and re-submit community calendar listings to various outlets.
- Develop community outreach activities.
Grant/Sponsorships
- Identify opportunities and recruit sponsor funds.
- Identify grant funds and applications.
Vendor Recruitment
- Seek out unique products and arts produced by Manitou businesses and recruit vendors for the market. Items such as garden art, pottery, fine art, candles, soaps, lotions are in high demand.
Volunteer Development
- Recruit volunteers to help at the market. Jobs include, set-up, bartending, break down, security, concierge services, decorations.
Entertainment
- At this time, the proposed theme for the grand opening is Carmen Miranda. A Caribbean band will entertain. Those people coming to the market wearing a “headdress” will receive a discount in the food court and beer garden.
- The Grand Finale will be the Hippy Dippy Chile Fiesta. Chile samples will be sold, and a silent auction will be featured. All funds raised from the auction are held over as start-up funds for 2007.
The Midweek Market Farmers Market Festival will start on Wednesday, June 7 and run every week until August 30. The market opens at 4 pm. In addition to fresh produce from around the region, the market will feature specialty food items, arts from Manitou Spring’s artists, live music, a beer garden, fresh food court and entertainment.
